
March 25 is a national holiday in Greece celebrating Independence Day. It is the day commemorating the beginning revolt and war against the occupying Ottoman Empire in 1821. Greeks had been dominated by the Turks for almost 400 years.

March 25 is a day for all Greeks young and old to celebrate. In 1821 they rose up against the Ottoman Empire which had occupied Greece for nearly 400 years. March 25th marks the beginning of the revolt
Mykonian school children wore their historic costumes and carried Greek flags. They learn at an early age about national pride. It was a wonderful day for the island as they recognized the 198th anniversary of Greek Independence .


Traditional Macedonian costume worn by dance students of Anemomili Cultural Traditional Dance Club of Mykonos. The headdress represented a war helmet to show the bravery of women in battle.
Ceremonies and moment of silence before the parade Mayor Kouka placing a memorial wreath.
Music was also part of the celebration.
School children under the direction of Tina Psalida sang for the gathered crowd.
