Hidden in a quiet area above Platis Gialos is an historic monument that locals know of but do not advertise to tourists. The Portes (Door) is a beautiful Stonehenge-like monument made of large granite blocks that still stand strong to this day. There used to be a very old defence system that protected the island’s settlements. From this view, they could see if any danger was arriving by sea and alert the inhabitants.

It is on private land with no signs directing you to it. The Portes is generally not available for tourist visits. This is probably a good thing, saving it from being trampled by hordes of people.
