Natural Sea Salt Collected in Mykonos

The salty seas of the Aegean leave a wealth of natural sea salt for those know where to look.

A basket, spoon and sunhat are all that’s needed to collect what nature has deposited on the rocks.

The Aegean Sea is part of the Mediterranean Sea which is one of the saltiest seas in the world. You may have noticed when swimming in these seas, that your feel more buoyant.

What makes it unique is that the Mediterranean is almost land locked and has a salinity of 38 ppt and higher. The ocean waters of the world have 34-36 ppt on average. The high temperatures of the region causes evaporation of the sea more rapidly than in other bodies of water. This leaves more salt behind.

IS IT BETTER?

It’s often considered nutritionally superior to table salt, which is heavily ground and has had most of its nutrients removed. Natural sea salt contains some minerals, including potassium, iron and calcium.

This will make you want to take a dip in the Aegean Sea……Sea salt helps to clean pores, balance oil production and decrease bacteria that can cause breakouts and acne. Since sea salt can absorb the toxins from the skin, it is a natural cleanser and detoxifier. It also helps increase circulation, has antiseptic properties and soothes and softens irritated skin.
